My Story

I’m a Sophomore at Green Level High School near the beautiful city of Apex, NC. My school is new and a wonderful place to learn and meet friends. We’re finally in-person after months of covid virtual lockdown. We have tons of activities at school every day to thrive and learn. Outside of school, I work at a local Juicery as an Assistant Chef. It’s a fun job that’s physically demanding and one that allows me to meet virtually all kinds of people. I come across customers that are super nice and ones that are super mean. I have an amazing manager, Tina who promoted me to be a Floor Lead last month. I manage the full process from Start to Finish that day and it’s given me the opportunity to observe the business and operations. Although a Juicery, we run into IT issues all the time with customers coming in asking for a mobile app, taking pictures of our menu and searching on google, wanting to pay by tap, swipe and even bitcoins. We also run into the occasional credit card processing issues. I’ve begun to learn that IT is an integral part of any business.

I was always interested in IT from middle school. I once had an opportunity to go to MetLife through the “Bring Your Child to Work” program they offered. There I was exposed to their business and I was in a group game programming activity that really got me into software. Since that time, I’ve been learning Python. I’ve tried a few programs and have been pretty successful. I also got a scholarship to work with Klaussie on her coding bootcamp. I’ve enjoyed IT very much. So, all of this got me into thinking that businesses really need experts who can help them with their IT/software needs. I spoke to a few customers and asked if they’d be happy to order through a mobile app, get software suggestions, etc. and got positive feedback. So, I decided to create a non-profit.

Thus was born BetterWithIT. As the name suggests, I’m hoping I can make a change and help businesses use IT correctly. I don’t know much, but I’m hoping to learn from the experience. I was told by many that I should really volunteer instead of starting a non-profit. I wanted to take this to a bigger level, make this a nation-wide service and bring together like-minded folks, so I went ahead with establishing the business. Between school and work, I have very little time, but I’ve sacrificed my social activities for a social cause. And so my story continues. Oh.. and don’t forget to reach out if you need any IT help. You have to be a deserving business though. Good Luck!
